Rathcoffey is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in County Kildare, Ireland. Teresa Lynch, Nuala Malone and Eileen Reilly were selected on the Kildare camogie team of the century.

History

The Rathcoffey James Leahy branch of the GAA was set up under the chairmanship of Henry Travers in February 1888, having given assurances that it would accept no members from William O'Brien's club in Clane. They beat Staplestown 6-12 to nil in one of their first matches.

Gaelic Football

Rathcoffey gave a walkover in their only appearance in the county senior football semi-final in 1912. Jim Dalton, a Rathcoffeyman playing with Clane, played for Kildare in the 1935 All Ireland final. Rathcoffey are currently a junior team in Kildare and are competing in the third league division of Kildare.

Rathcoffey forms St Edward’s along with Straffan for underage purposes and St Edward's fields teams at all levels from Under 9 to Under 21. Although Rathcoffey has few youths in the village it still manages to produce some of the finest juvenile footballers.

Hurling

Rathcoffey won the 1935 Kildare junior hurling final, a competition confined to civilians when military teams dominated hurling in the county. In the final, 1903 All Ireland veteran Bill Merriman played for Rathcoffey alongside his son. William Óg Merriman won a Leinster junior hurling medal with Kildare in 1935. John McCormack of Rathcoffey played hurling for Kildare in the 1930s. Rathcoffey reached the Kildare SH semi-final in 1936.
