}}Renegade Kid LLC was an American video game developer based in Austin, Texas, founded by Jools Watsham and Gregg Hargrove in May 2007. The first game, The Ward, was announced in June 2007, to be published by Gamecock Media Group.[1] Watsham and Hargrove both brought a long-term cooperative experience in video game development, especially on Nintendo 64 (N64).[2] Watsham specifically described the Nintendo DS, which became Renegade Kid's primary development platform, as "basically a portable N64".[3] In March 2012, Renegade Kid announced PitchWinPlay, a competition organized with Gamescribe, in which people could pitch their game ideas to the two companies, out of which the winning entry would be turned into a fully-fledged game for the Nintendo eShop.[4] However, Gamescribe shut down on July 12, 2012, and PitchWinPlay was effectively cancelled.[5][6]

According to Watsham, a publishing deal proposed to Renegade Kid in 2012, that would have seen minimal risk for the publisher but existential risk for the developer, led him to decide that his company should focus only on independent video game development going forward.[7]

On August 29, 2016, Renegade Kid announced that it would shut down.[8][9][10] The studio's intellectual properties were split between the two founders' previously-founded solo ventures, with Watsham's Atooi receiving the 2D games (including Mutant Mudds and the in-development Treasurenauts) and Hargrove's Infitizmo claiming all 3D titles (including Dementium and Moon Chronicles).[11][12][13] As primary reason for the split, Watsham cited financial difficulties for maintaining competitive game development with large teams in an overall small studio.[14]
