Torrens was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast-medium bowler, he represented Ireland six times in first-class cricket between 1966 and 1982, taking 26 wickets at the excellent average of 15.46. More recently, he has served as the manager of the Irish cricket team, and headed their delegation to the 2007 Cricket World Cup.
