Population: {{ru-census2010|21,674|;}} {{ru-census2002|22,850|;}} {{su-census1989|27,217;}} 26,000 (1974). HistoryIt has been known to exist since 1502.{{citation needed|date=July 2014}} In the late 16th century, it was a part of the Great Abatis Border and guarded the Ryazhsk portage from the Don to the Oka River.
