In 1998, Umeda finished 2nd to fellow Japanese Akio Shimada in the three-cushion event of the Asian Games. He later won it against Duong Anh Vu of Vietnam in 2006.[2] A year afterward, he dominated the UMB World Three-cushion Championship by defeating Daniel Sánchez, the two-time world champion from Spain. With the victory, he became the second Asian to win it in 34 years since Nobuaki Kobayashi.{{Clarify|date=August 2008}} {{Commonscat|Ryuji Umeda}}References1. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.joc.or.jp/int_games/asia/2006doha/athlete/pdf/cuesports.pdf|script-title=ja:日本代表選手団|publisher=Japanese Olympic Committee|year=2006|accessdate=2007-12-10|format=PDF|language=Japanese}} {{UMB World Three-cushion Champions}}{{Cue sports nav}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Umeda, Ryuuji}}{{Japan-sport-bio-stub}}{{billiards-bio-stub}}2. ^{{cite web |url = http://sports123.com/bil/masg-3c.html |title = Sports 123: Billiard: Men: Asian Games: 3 Cushion |publisher = Sports 123 |accessdate = 2008-07-31 |deadurl = yes |archiveurl = https://web.archive.org/web/20070513232209/http://sports123.com/bil/masg-3c.html |archivedate = 2007-05-13 |df = }} 12 : Japanese carom billiards players|World champions in three-cushion billiards|1968 births|Living people|Sportspeople from Tokyo|Asian Games medalists in cue sports|Cue sports players at the 1998 Asian Games|Cue sports players at the 2006 Asian Games|Asian Games gold medalists for Japan|Asian Games silver medalists for Japan|Medalists at the 1998 Asian Games|Medalists at the 2006 Asian Games |
