In addition to Saint-Alexis-de-Matapédia itself, the municipality also includes the communities of Léonard-de-Matapédia and Saint-Benoît-de-Matapédia. In 2003, the Parish Municipality of Saint-Alexis-de-Matapédia became the Municipality of Saint-Alexis-de-Matapédia.
