Salem Sue was built in 1974 for $40,000. The project was sponsored by the New Salem Lions Club in honor of the local dairy farming industry. The artist was Dave Oswald and the construction was done by Sculpture Mfg. Co in La Crosse, Wisconsin.[3] The statue stands {{Convert|38|feet|}} high and {{Convert|50|feet|}} long.
