Jackson later became a partner in a mercantile firm in Winnipeg. In 1878, he married Ida Isabella Clark. Jackson later moved to Stonewall, where he was a merchant and mill owner.[3] He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba for the electoral district of Rockwood in 1883, 1884, 1886, 1888, 1892 and 1896. He was defeated in 1899.[4] From 1891 to 1895, he was the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.[1] He was first returned to House of Commons of Canada in the general elections of 1904 for the riding of Selkirk. A Liberal, he was defeated in 1908.[5] He was an Alderman in the Winnipeg City Council in 1877, 1878 and 1880.[4] Jackson was chairman of the Board of Works for Winnipeg in 1882.[2] References1. ^http://www.westmanitoba.com/bios/sjackson.htm {{Speakers of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Jackson, Samuel}}{{Manitoba-politician-stub}}2. ^1 {{cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=9_wmAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA338 |page=338 |title=The Canadian Parliamentary companion |year=1889 |last=Gemmill |first=J A |accessdate=2012-10-24}} 3. ^{{cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=hVUvAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA72 |pages=72–3 |title=A political manual of the province of Manitoba and the North-west Territories |last=Robertson |first=John Palmerston |year=1887 |accessdate=2012-10-24}} 4. ^1 [https://archive.org/details/canadianparliame00montuoft The Canadian Parliament; biographical sketches and photo-engravures of the senators and members of the House of Commons of Canada.
