It was driven by Jean Alesi, in his second year with the team, and Pedro Diniz, who replaced Stewart-bound Johnny Herbert. The car proved promising, with a strong race pace throughout the season. However, the year was compromised through poor gearbox reliability and not enough speed in qualifying trim.
