Shalom College has been known for its personal, academic and inclusive community since it was established in 1973. We attract residents that want to succeed in academic studies while meeting friends over social, sport and cultural activities. With only 133 students at all stages of their studies, a caring office team, six resident advisors and four resident academic tutors, Shalom residents find a supportive cohort and home while living on UNSW Sydney campus. We celebrate diversity and welcome residents from diverse backgrounds, faiths and affiliations. Our values of community, learning and giving are inspired by the Jewish founders of the college. FacilitiesShalom is known for its bright, spacious and airy rooms, the majority including balconies. All our rooms have private washbasins and our ensuite rooms have private toilets and showers. There are two wings are connected through two kitchenettes, a pool room, a minor common room and a TV room. Our music room has a piano so residents can play music away from bedrooms. Residents have access at all times to four academic tutors-in-residence specialising in a large range of disciplines. Our six Resident Advisors support community life and the wellbeing of our residents. They provide informal counselling, mentoring and referrals and host resident gatherings that build community around residents’ interests. Shalom is the Hebrew word for "hello" and "peace".
