A Shalu is a regional variant of the sari from Banaras (Varanasi), India. It is one of many types of saris and differs in the fact that it is the end result of combing Paithani fabric and Banarasi fabric.[1]{{Unreliable source?|certain=y|date=May 2018}} Paithani, named after the Paithan town in Aurangabad Maharashtra, is made from very fine silk and is characterized by borders of an oblique square design, and a pallu with a Peacock design. Banarasi, also known as Banarasi Silk, is a fine variant of Silk that originates from the city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, India.[2]{{Unreliable source?|certain=y|date=May 2018}} One of the biggest differences with the Shalu Sari, in comparison to others, is that it is completely embellished at the base with what is called “jari” motifs.{{Citation needed|date=May 2018}} Shalu saris are often worn by brides in Maharashtra.{{Citation needed|date=May 2018}} References1. ^{{Cite web|url=http://saree.guide/shalu-saree-for-wedding/|title=Wearing a Shalu Saree for Wedding {{!}} Saree Guide|website=saree.guide|language=en-US|access-date=2018-05-17}} {{Saree}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Shalu (Sari)}}{{India-culture-stub}}2. ^{{Cite news|url=https://www.utsavpedia.com/textiles/banarasi-silk/|title=All About Banarasi Silk Fabric and Sarees {{!}} Utsavpedia|date=2016-12-18|work=Utsavpedia|access-date=2018-05-17|language=en-US}} 2 : Culture of Uttar Pradesh|Saris |
