The school became a member of the Heath Family (North West) on 1 September 2013 and now works as an academy in partnership with related school establishments. Sir William Stanier is shortened to SWS in school. Part of the school is used at evenings and weekend for leisure activities. This is managed by SLS[3] HistorySir William Stanier School was officially established when Coppenhall High School and Victoria Community Technology School merged in 2007.
