As of the 2010 Census, its population was 29,249.[5] HistoryIt was founded in 1737 as the fortress of Sorochinskaya ({{lang|ru|Сорочинская}}).{{citation needed|date=March 2012}} It had been known as the village of Sorochinskoye ({{lang|ru|Сорочинское}}) since the 19th century.
