It is situated {{convert|10|mi|km|0}} north-east from Horncastle and {{convert|8|mi|km|0}} south-east from Louth. GeographySouth Thoresby is about {{convert|1|mi|km|1}} east from the A16 in the Lincolnshire Wolds. The civil parish extends much further to the south, over the A16 and to include the hamlets of Calceby (a former medieval village) and Driby, extending southwards to border with Langton by Spilsby. To the south-west is Haugh. It lies close to the northern boundary with Aby with Greenfield. CommunityThe parish council administers Swaby, South Thoresby and Haugh, although these are separate civil parishes. South Thoresby church is dedicated to Saint Andrew, and dates from 1738, being restored in 1872.[2] It replaced an earlier church, which had gone by 1735.[3] The local public house is the Vine Inn, which was originally built in 1508, although the present building appears to date from the 18th century.[4] Within the parish is Singleton Birch, a chalk quarry. Nature reserveThe South Thoresby Warren nature reserve opened in 2007, and was officially declared a Local Nature Reserve in 2008.[5] Birds seen there include the yellowhammer, bullfinches, great tits and buzzards. Plants there include the common spotted orchid, the Yorkshire fog, the common mouse-ear, the bristly ox-tongue, the silverweed, the self-heal and the common centaury.{{citation needed|date=May 2012}} References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.neighbourhood.statistics.gov.uk/dissemination/LeadKeyFigures.do?a=7&b=11128713&c=LN13+0AN&d=16&e=62&g=6446024&i=1001x1003x1032x1004&m=0&r=0&s=1439997194604&enc=1|title=Parish population 2011|accessdate=19 August 2015}} 2. ^{{cite web|title=Lincs to the Past|url=http://www.lincstothepast.com/Church-of-St-Andrew--South-Thoresby/907491.record?pt=S|publisher=Lincolnshire Archives|accessdate=17 May 2011}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=Lincolnshire Wolds|url=http://www.lincolnshirewolds.info/souththoresby/church.htm|publisher=Lincolnshire Wolds website|accessdate=17 May 2011}} 4. ^{{cite web|title=Lincolnshire Wolds|url=http://www.lincolnshirewolds.info/souththoresby/vineinn-old.htm|publisher=Lincolnshire Wolds website|accessdate=17 May 2011}} 5. ^{{cite web|title=Natural England|url=http://www.lnr.naturalengland.org.uk/Special/lnr/lnr_details.asp?C=26&N=South%20Thoresby%20Warren&ID=1614|publisher=Local Nature Reserves|accessdate=17 May 2011}} External links
