As of the 2010 census, its population was 505 and it contained 202 housing units.[2] HistoryStanton Township formed from a portion of St. Joseph Township on an unknown date. The first settler in the township was called Samuel McClughen, who came from Ohio in 1834.[3] GeographyStanton is Township 20 North, Range 10 East of the Third Principal Meridian. According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of {{convert|34.76|sqmi}}, of which {{convert|34.71|sqmi}} (or 99.86%) is land and {{convert|0.06|sqmi}} (or 0.17%) is water.[2] The stream of Spoon River runs through this township.
