It was located within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn. The highlight event of this school was "Blue And Gold," a school spirit event where the freshman and seniors competed against the sophomores and juniors in a series of events.{{cn|date=November 2018}} This school overlooked a beautiful beach scenery and the Atlantic Ocean.[2] BackgroundStella Maris was established in 1943 by the Sisters of St. Joseph.[3] The school had an estimated 500 students coming from all over the peninsula. The teacher-to-student ratio was one teacher to every twelve students. The tuition was $7,300 per year. Stella Maris was affiliated with Adelphi University and St. John's University for fifteen credits. In the high school was a junior high school called Maura Clarke Junior High School Program. This program closed in 2008. It was announced on October 19, 2009 that Stella Maris HS would close in June 2010, because of low enrollment. In June 2010 Stella Maris High School graduated its last class and closed its doors, after 67 years of educating the young women of the Rockaway Peninsula.[4] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.css-msa.org/search.php/|title=MSA-Commission on Secondary Schools|accessdate=2009-05-27|author=MSA-CSS|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://www.webcitation.org/5wRXHJRCr?url=http://www.css-msa.org/search.php/|archivedate=2011-02-12|df=}} 2. ^{{Cite news|url=http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/queens/prayer-queens-catholic-girls-schools-close-66-years-article-1.385037|title=One of Queens' three Catholic girls schools will close after 66 years|work=NY Daily News|access-date=2017-10-13|language=en}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.stellamarishs.org/|title=Stella Maris School History|accessdate=2007-08-01|publisher=Stella Maris High School website|author=SMHS}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.rockawave.com/news/2009-10-23/Front_Page/Stella_Maris_HS_Closing_Doors.html|title=Stella Maris HS Closing Doors|accessdate=2010-01-24|publisher=The Wave of Long Island website|author= Howard Schwach}} External links
