Stinger (real name Wendy Sherman[1]) is a fictional mutant appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.

Publication history

Stinger first appeared in X-Factor #5-6 (June–July 1986), and was created by Bob Layton.

The character subsequently appears in X-Factor #33 (October 1988), and New Mutants Annual #7 (1991).

Stinger appeared as part of the "Alliance of Evil" entry in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Update '89 #1.

Fictional character biography

A young valley girl with electrical-based mutant powers, Stinger is a member of the Alliance of Evil, Apocalypse's original strike force. Because of her youth, Stinger often handles situations recklessly, as seen when she accidentally kills Michael Nowlan's girlfriend, Susan. This is after Nowlan had escaped Apocalypse's services yet again and he had sent the team to bring her back.[2] Stinger stays with the Alliance of Evil when they defy the Mutant Registration Act,[3] and later battles the New Mutants with the team.[4]

She is later seen as a resident on Utopia and has befriended Iceman.[5]

Powers and abilities

Stinger can build static energy around her hands and discharge it as bioelectricity bolts.

Other versions

Age of Apocalypse

In the harsh reality known as Age of Apocalypse, Wendy was one of the thousands of refugees who took residence at Avalon. She was living there for five years when Apocalypse's troops found the secret place. She was the first to be possessed by the Shadow King who used her electric bolt powers to create havok on Avalon, until she was killed by Mystique.[6]
