Owned and operated by Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, it is built on the slope beside Garden Road and Cotton Tree Drive. The ground floor serves as the Garden Road terminus of the Peak Tram. HistoryIn 1889 the Garden Road Station for the Peak Tram opened. In 1935 a new lower terminus was built along with the St John's Apartments: a reinforced concrete building, with eight studio flats and a two-bedroom penthouse.[1] In 1964 the apartments were demolished and a modern 14-storey commercial and residential building was erected in its place. This was in turn replaced by the current 22-storey building.[2] This building won the Silver Medal of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects in 1983.[1] It was designed by Kwan, Ng, Wong & Associates and built by Hip Hing Construction.[3] References1. ^1 {{cite book |url=http://hub.hku.hk/bitstream/10722/27472/3/FullText.pdf |title=Peak Tram Station - Extension |work=Thesis Report |year=2000/2001 |author=Hui Chik Shek Enesco }} {{Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels}}{{commons|Category:St. John's Building|St. John's Building}}{{Coord|22.277729|114.159172|type:landmark|display=title}}{{asia-struct-stub}}2. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.hshgroup.com/history.asp?rtid=58&cid=10&id=51&listid=63 |title=The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels: History |publisher=www.hshgroup.com |accessdate=2011-02-10 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110712225958/http://www.hshgroup.com/history.asp?rtid=58&cid=10&id=51&listid=63 |archivedate=2011-07-12 |df= }} 3. ^{{cite web|title=St. John's Building & Peak Tram Station|url=http://www.hiphing.com.hk/en/projects/details.php?id=93|publisher=Hip Hing Construction|accessdate=30 May 2016}} 2 : Office buildings in Hong Kong|Central, Hong Kong |
