Stockton is best known for the Stockton Mine operated by Solid Energy. This mine had the first electric railway in New Zealand, from 1908 to 1953, when it was replaced by an aerial cableway.[2] References1. ^LINZ database 2. ^{{cite book | last = Churchman | first = Geoffrey B. | authorlink = | coauthors = | title = Railway Electrification in Australia and New Zealand | publisher = IPL Books | date = 1995 | location = Sydney & Wellington | pages = 8,9 | url = | doi = | id = | isbn = 0-908876-79-3 }} External links
