The station was originally part of the Glasgow, Barrhead and Kilmarnock Joint Railway. HistoryThe station opened on 1 December 1877,[1] and was located close to the junction between the lines to Glasgow St Enoch via Gorbals Junction (opened the year before the station itself, in 1876) and the older route towards {{stnlnk|Glasgow Central}} (first opened in 1848 by the Glasgow, Barrhead and Neilston Direct Railway). It closed to passengers permanently on 28 May 1962.[1] Today little remains of the station at rail level, although the former booking office building on the bridge above still stands and the footbridge is still in use and a category C listed building.[2] [3] Both lines meanwhile are still open as part of the Glasgow South Western Line, though the old route towards {{rws|Gorbals}} has been freight-only since the closure of St Enoch station in 1966 - it now links into the West Coast Main Line at Larkfield Junction (using a section of the former Polloc and Govan Railway) as the section beyond Langside Junction onto the former City of Glasgow Union Railway was closed in 1973 and subsequently lifted. {{Historical Rail Start}}{{rail line one to two|previous = {{stnlnk|Crossmyloof}} Line and station open |next1 = {{stnlnk|Gorbals}} Line partially closed; Station closed |next2 = {{stnlnk|Eglinton Street}} Line open; Station closed |route1 = Caledonian and Glasgow & South Western Railways Glasgow, Barrhead and Kilmarnock Joint Railway |route2 = Caledonian and Glasgow & South Western Railways Glasgow, Barrhead and Kilmarnock Joint Railway |col = {{CR-GSW-Jt colour}} |lightcol={{CR-GSW-Jt light}} }}{{s-end}} ReferencesNotes1. ^1 2 3 Butt (1995), page 222 2. ^Railscot - Glasgow, Barrhead and Neilston Direct Railway www.railbrit.co.uk; Retrieved 2013-08-16 3. ^{{cite web |title=Darnley Road/Moray Place, Former Strathbungo Station, Footbridge |url=http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB33401 |publisher=Historic Scotland |accessdate=18 March 2019}} Sources
