词条 | Strathmore, Sutherland |
释义 |
Strathmore is best known for being the birthplace of the Scottish Gaelic poet, Rob Donn at Aultnacaillich[1][2] and for Dun Dornaigil, an Iron Age broch standing up to {{convert|6.7|m|ft}} high.[3][4] The strath is sparsely populated, the area having been cleared of most settlement in the early 19th century. Strathmore lies at the western edge of the Ben Hope Site of Special Scientific Interest.[5] The Strathmore river is a salmon and trout fishery and provides spawning grounds for both fish.[6] References{{commonscat}}1. ^1 Anderson.G & Anderson.P (1842) Guide to the highlands and islands of Scotland, including Orkney and Zetland, p.585, Edinburgh: William Tait ([https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=i54HAAAAQAAJ&lpg=PA585&ots=NEyQ0fi6At&dq=rob%20donn%20gaelic%20poet%20strathmore&pg=PA585#v=onepage&q=rob%20donn%20gaelic%20poet%20strathmore&f=false available online]).
