释义 |
The Strong River is a {{convert|95.2|mi|km|adj=mid|-long}}[1] river in south-central Mississippi in the United States.[2] It is a tributary of the Pearl River,[3] which flows to the Gulf of Mexico. CourseThe stream headwaters arise in the Bienville National Forest in Scott County, about {{convert|6|mi|0}} west of Forest at {{coord|32|23|08|N|89|35|04|W|display=inline}}[2] and at an elevation of about 465 feet.[3] and flows generally to the southwest through Smith, Rankin and Simpson counties, past the town of D'Lo.[4] It flows into the Pearl River {{convert|2|mi|0}} southeast of Georgetown at {{coord|31|50|59|N|90|08|09|W|display=inline,title}} at an elevation of 197 feet.[2] The Strong River takes its name from the English translation of the Choctaw words boke or boge homi, which means "creek bitter" or "creek strong tasting". The name has nothing to do with the physical characteristics of the stream.{{citation needed|date=November 2013}} See also
