Stuart Gary Tuck (born 1 October 1974) is a footballer who plays as a left-back and centre back. After being assistant manager at Burgess Hill Town, he is currently playing for Shoreham.

He started his career at Brighton & Hove Albion as a YTS trainee in 1992, [3] making his league debut on 2 October 1993 in a 0-0 draw at the Goldstone Ground against Exeter City. [4]

Tuck went on to make 93 league appearances, scoring once and captained Albion on several occasions.[5]

He appeared at left back in the final ever game at the Goldstone Ground against Doncaster Rovers in 1997 [6] and the following week played the full 90 minutes against Hereford United in the game that secured Brighton & Hove Albion's status as a football league team.[7]

After retiring from full-time football due to injury in October 1998,[8] Tuck joined Worthing,[9] before signing for Eastbourne Borough in October 2001, where he impressed, winning fans player of the year in the 2003–04 season and player of the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup.[10]

Tuck started the 2006-2007 season at Burgess Hill Town,[11] but then moved to Bognor Regis Town.[12] He picked up a serious achilles tendon injury against Yeading on 31 March 2007[13] but was still voted player-of-the-year. In December 2007, he joined Burgess Hill Town [13] and then Eastbourne Town,[14] after turning down an offer of the manager's job at the Green Elephants Stadium.[15]

Tuck then joined Whitehawk[16] and was part of the promotion winning team from Ryman League Division One South in 2011-2012 that also won the Sussex County Cup at the American Express Community Stadium.[17] He rejoined Burgess Hill Town for a third time, initially on loan,[18] and was then appointed player/assistant manager in November 2012 after Adam Hinshelwood stepped down.[19]

Tuck was mentioned in connection with the vacant manager's job at one of his former clubs Bognor Regis Town in May 2017.[20]

Tuck made a rare start for Burgess Hill Town in the Sussex Senior Cup in January 2018 against Saltdean United, but was sent off early in the second half for a second yellow card.[21] He left the Hillians in September 2018[22] and subsequently signed for Shoreham as a player, appearing alongside his son Josh.[23]

Personal life

Tuck was born in Brighton and attended Stanley Deason Secondary School in Whitehawk. He is a PE teacher at Varndean School in Brighton, coaching and managing a number of school teams.
