It was founded in 1989 and became affiliated to the International Rugby Board in 1994. It is also a full member of the Federation of Oceania Rugby Unions (FORU), which is the governing body for rugby union in Oceania.[1] National teamsThe Tahiti 15-a-side team has competed at the South Pacific Games in the 1970s and 80s, and more recently has played for the FORU Oceania Cup.[2] Tahiti fields teams in 7s competitions as well as 15s.[3][4] The national women's 7s team has also competed at the Pacific Games.[5] See also{{portal|French Polynesia|Tahiti|Rugby union}}
