The conservation park covers {{convert|211|ha|abbr=on}} including areas of thick scrub, some steep walking tracks and the heritage-listed remains of a nineteenth century silver and lead mine.[2][3] HistoryTalisker became a conservation park in 1976{{citation needed|date=April 2014}} after a period of 104 years of intermittent mining activity in the area. The park owes its name to the two McLeod brothers who discovered an outcrop of silver-lead ore while searching for gold in 1862.[4] The Talisker Mining company was formed the same year to extract the ore from the lode the McLeods named the 'Talisker of Scotland' after a locality in their homeland, the 'Isle of Skye'.[5] References1. ^{{cite web|title= Terrestrial Protected Areas of South Australia (refer 'DETAIL' tab ) |url= http://www.environment.gov.au/system/files/pages/761994ab-42cc-4f24-952c-c21221861884/files/capad2016sa.xlsx |work=CAPAD 2016|publisher=Australian Government, Department of the Environment (DoE) |accessdate=21 February 2018 |date=2016}} 2. ^1 2 {{cite web|title=Protected Areas Information System - reserve list (as of 17 Feb 2014)|url=http://www.environment.sa.gov.au/files/b88e6e26-4bd9-4c68-8fff-9e800114eb69/park-management-protected-areas-gen.pdf|publisher=Department of Environment Water and Natural Resources|accessdate=16 March 2014|pages=}} 3. ^{{cite news| last =Tilbrook |first =Kym |coauthors = |title =Covering the best of our parks | work =Adelaide Advertiser | pages = | publisher =News Ltd | date =7 March 2003 | url =http://global.factiva.com.simsrad.net.ocs.mq.edu.au/aa/?ref=advtsr0020030307dz3700014&pp=1&fcpil=en&napc=S&sa_from= | accessdate =24 September 2013 }} 4. ^{{cite news| last =Tilbrook |first =Kym |coauthors = |title =They're creatures from the Deep | work =Sunday Mail | pages = | publisher =News Ltd | date =30 April 2006 | url =http://global.factiva.com.simsrad.net.ocs.mq.edu.au/aa/?ref=SUNMAI0020060430e24u0007u&pp=1&fcpil=en&napc=S&sa_from= | accessdate =24 September 2013 }} 5. ^{{cite news| last =Tilbrook |first =Kym |title =Take a walk on the wild side | work =Adelaide Advertiser | page = 74 | publisher =News Ltd | date =12 July 2002 | url =http://global.factiva.com.simsrad.net.ocs.mq.edu.au/ha/default.aspx | accessdate =24 September 2013 }} External links
