Taplan is an aboriginal word meaning grass tree. The town was laid out by Henry George in 1914.[1] The railway from Adelaide to Paringa was laid past the site of the future township in 1913, {{convert|183.25|miles}} by rail from Adelaide.[1] The Taplan Post Office was open from 1 July 1914 to 14 May 1982.[2] NaddaThe next railway siding south of Taplan was named Nadda ({{coordinates |-34.61|140.89|region:AU-SA_type:landmark|display=inline}}). It is now "incorporated into the bounded locality of Taplin" (sic).[3] The name was proposed to be changed to Nalyilta (an Aboriginal name for a bough shelter) in 1916, but if it changed, it was changed back soon after.[4] A school opened at Nadda in 1924 and closed in 1962.[5][6] A postal receiving office opened at Nadda on 2 January 1914, became a post office around 1916, and closed on 13 June 1974.[7] References1. ^1 {{cite web |url=http://maps.sa.gov.au/plb/ |title=Placename Details: Taplan |id=SA0026537 |work=Property Location Browser |publisher=Government of South Australia |date=23 April 2008 |accessdate=3 April 2016}} {{District Council of Loxton Waikerie localities}}{{SouthAustralia-geo-stub}}2. ^{{cite web |url=http://maps.sa.gov.au/plb/ |title=Placename Details: Taplan Post office |id=SA0065421 |work=Property Location Browser |publisher=Government of South Australia |date=23 April 2008 |accessdate=25 January 2018}} 3. ^{{cite web |url=http://maps.sa.gov.au/plb/ |title=Placename Details: Nadda |id=SA0002442 |work=Property Location Browser |publisher=Government of South Australia |date=23 April 2008 |accessdate=25 January 2018}} 4. ^{{cite web |url=http://maps.sa.gov.au/plb/ |title=Placename Details: Nalyilta Railway Station |id=SA0032862 |work=Property Location Browser |publisher=Government of South Australia |date=23 April 2008 |accessdate=25 January 2018}} 5. ^{{cite web |url=http://maps.sa.gov.au/plb/ |title=Placename Details: Nadda School |id=SA0035167 |work=Property Location Browser |publisher=Government of South Australia |date=16 January 2009 |accessdate=25 January 2018}} 6. ^{{cite web | url=http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/digitalpubs/placenamesofsouthaustralia/N.pdf | title=Place Names of South Australia - N | publisher=State Library of South Australia | accessdate=26 January 2018}} 7. ^{{cite web | url=https://www.premierpostal.com/cgi-bin/wsProd.sh/viewpodet.w?cdpo=14900 | title=Nadda | publisher=Premier Postal | work=Post Office Reference | accessdate=26 January 2018}} 1 : Towns in South Australia |
