It is situated off NH-1, 14 km north of Karnal. The name Taraori derives from the word Taraine. History{{main|Battles of Tarain}}It was at Taraori that in 1191 the Hindu army under Prithviraj Chauhan defeated the invading army of Muhammad of Ghaur. The following year, Ghauri invaded again and defeated Prithviraj's forces at the same site. A wall around the fort is now in a dilapidated condition.
