He is the author of many books. His writings include 'Velicham Kooduthal Velicham' ( Collection of Articles), 'Rajeev Gandhi : Surya Thejassinte Ormakku', 'Mandelayude Nattil; Gandhijiyudeyum' (Travelogue). K Damodaran muthal Berlin Kunjananthan Nair vare'. He served as president DCC trivandrum, KPCC general secretary, KPCC vice -president, KPCC president (acting) and chairman TRIDA. He is a columnist with several newspapers. The evergreen Malayalam actor (late)Mr.Prem Nazir. was his Brother in law, since he marrid Prem Nazir's younger sister Suhra. Basheer and Suhra have two children together. Suhra died in 2013 aged 54 after a long battle with diabetes.
