}}The Centrepoint is a shopping mall in Singapore which opened in 1983 as Centrepoint Shopping Centre (or just Centrepoint) until its renaming in 2006 as The Centrepoint.[1]

Incidents

On the 16 of February 2019, a fire broke out at a shoe shop called Geox at 10:30

Features

The mall has anchor tenants Metro Department Store and clothing retailer Gap, Marks & Spencer and The Dairy Farm Group (7-Eleven, Cold Storage, Guardian Pharmacy and Photo Finish) after Robinsons had closed down their shops to make way for newer tenants. Robinsons relocated to The Heeren whereas Cold Storage opens its 313 @ Somerset branch prior to reopening. The Centrepoint is managed by Frasers Centrepoint Limited which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fraser & Neave. There was a shopping mall decentralisation strategy over the years.

It has six storeys and two basements.

Retail and food and beverage outlets are on the first basement to the fifth floor, while on the sixth floor are a car park, offices and an education centre. There are two car parks in the building, one at basement two and another on levels 4–6. The Centrepoint has residential apartments at the back of the building.

In 2005, Fraser & Neave announced that the mall would be going under a major revamp, the first since its opening. The revamp included a six-storey extension with two basements which was previously a sidewalk. The second basement to the third floor would be for food and beverage outlets and shops, and the fourth to sixth floors would be an extension of the former Robinsons. The renovation works were completed in December 2006, and there is now a Gap store on the second floor and an Esprit store on the third floor.

There are plans to transform Orchard Road into a megamall that is connected by a network of linked walkways. Part of this plan is a link bridge between The Centrepoint and Orchard Point. [2]

Accessibility

The Centrepoint is accessible from Orchard Road where vehicles can enter the car park through a side road. Somerset MRT Station is located opposite the shopping mall.
