The Watch Below (1966) is a science fiction novel by British writer James White, about a colony of humans stranded underwater in a sunken ship surviving due to air pockets, and a water-breathing alien species in search of a new home. The two generation ships encounter each other in the Earth's ocean. ReceptionAlgis Budrys of Galaxy Science Fiction liked the novel, stating that it was the first generation ship story to expand on Robert Heinlein's Orphans of the Sky.[1]References1. ^{{Cite magazine |last=Budrys |first=Algis |author= |last2= |first2= |date=August 1966 |title=Galaxy Bookshelf |department= |url=https://archive.org/stream/Galaxy_v24n06_1966-08#page/n185/mode/2up |magazine=Galaxy Science Fiction |pages=186-194 |type=}} External links
