Tin Cans and Car Tires is moe.'s second (and final) release with 550 Music; their first was 1996's No Doy. It was released on September 8, 1998 and featured the recorded debut of drummer Vinnie Amico, who had taken over the position from Chris Mazur in 1996. As is typical for moe., most of the material on this album had been featured in the band's live sets for a number of years before being recorded for this album, including "Queen of the Rodeo", which first appeared in 1995 as part of the "rock opera" Timmy.
