A sequel, Curse of the Sword, was released in 2001. GameplayIn Tomb Raider, the player control Lara Croft though 14 levels spread across five areas.[2] In each level, the player must solve puzzles, jump over obstacles, and defeat enemies. Lara can perform up to 25 different moves, including ledge-grabbing, backflips, and cliff-diving.[3] The story of the game follows Lara's attempts to stop a group of treasure hunters from possessing the Nightmare Stone, a key capable of releasing the evil god Quaxet.[2] DevelopmentTomb Raider was developed by Core Design and published by THQ as the first Tomb Raider game for a handheld console and Nintendo hardware.[5] Unlike most Game Boy Color games, which lock down the sprite resolution of the player character at 16 to 32 pixels tall, Core decided to make Lara 48 pixels high to accentuate her looks.[5] The character also features 2000 frames of animation.[5]Reception{{Video game reviews| GR = 79% | GSpot = 8.1/10[2] | IGN = 8/10[3] | N64 = {{Rating|4|5}}[11] | NP = 7.6/10[12] | rev1 = Planet Game Boy | rev1Score = 90%[13] }}Tomb Raider received generally positive reviews from critics. Frank Provo of GameSpot praised the levels, stating that each features a different gameplay theme, ranging from rope climbing in the temple levels to swimming in the caverns and dash-jumping over volcanic lava flows.[2] Critics also highlighted Lara's smooth and acrobatic animations,[12][13] and the fact that the player can perform a wide variety of moves with the limited buttons of the Game Boy Color.[3]{{clear}} References1. ^https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/gbc/199039-tomb-raider-starring-lara-croft/credit [2][3][4][5][6][7]2. ^1 2 3 {{cite web |url=http://www.ign.com/articles/2000/05/13/tomb-raider-4 |title=Tomb Raider |author=Craig Harris |publisher=IGN |date=2000-05-12 |accessdate=2018-02-04 |archiveurl=https://archive.is/20180204204354/http://www.ign.com/articles/2000/05/13/tomb-raider-4 |archivedate=2018-02-04 |deadurl=no}} 3. ^1 2 3 {{cite web |url=http://www.ign.com/articles/2000/06/14/tomb-raider-3 |title=Tomb Raider |author=Craig Harris |publisher=IGN |date=2000-06-13 |accessdate=2018-02-04 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20160322161615/http://www.ign.com/articles/2000/06/14/tomb-raider-3 |archivedate=2016-03-22 |deadurl=no}} 4. ^1 2 3 4 {{cite web |url=https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/tomb-raider-gbc-review/1900-2585359/ |title=Tomb Raider GBC Review |author=Frank Provo |publisher=GameSpot |date=2000-06-09 |accessdate=2018-02-04 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20151121002135/https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/tomb-raider-gbc-review/1900-2585359/ |archivedate=2015-11-21 |deadurl=no}} 5. ^1 {{cite magazine |title=Tomb Raider |magazine=N64 Magazine |publisher=Future Publishing |page=38 |date=May 2000 |issue=41}} 6. ^1 2 {{Cite magazine |title=Tomb Raider |magazine=Nintendo Power |publisher=Nintendo of America |page=125 |date=May 2000 |issue=132}} 7. ^1 2 {{Cite magazine |title=Tomb Raider |magazine=Planet Game Boy |publisher=Future Publishing |author=Alex |pages=18–19 |date=Summer 2000 |issue=3}} }} External links
