On 1 September 2004, Toyota launched the AN40 series Innova, badged as Kijang Innova in Indonesia. This came after the 2003 introduction of the new Avanza—the replacement for low-spec versions of the Kijang. Thus, Innova is more luxurious and expensive than the Kijang. The Kijang Innova has a body-on-frame chassis constructed from the Toyota IMV platform, as shared with the Hilux pickup truck and Fortuner SUV.

The Innova MPV sold in large numbers in India (where it's known as an MUV)- primarily serving the tourist taxi market and fleet operations of large technology business process outsourcing companies. It also enjoyed large markets in Malaysia, East Timor and Philippines. In the Philippines, it replaced the Revo, the name of Kijang in that market.

Engines

The Innova is powered by either a 2.0-liter petrol {{convert|136|PS|kW|0|abbr=on}} 1TR-FE VVT-i, a 2.7-liter petrol {{convert|160|PS|kW|0|abbr=on}} 2TR-FE VVT-i, or a 2.5-liter {{convert|102|PS|kW|0|abbr=on}} 2KD-FTV D-4D common rail turbocharged diesel engine. Trim levels are J, E, G, and V. The 2.7-liter unit is only for the V, with automatic transmission.

The 2.7-liter petrol engine was dropped from the Indonesian market due to low demand. The diesel variants use turbocharged 2KD-FTV engine which produces {{convert|102|hp|kW|abbr=on}} and {{convert|260|Nm|lbft|abbr=on}} of torque when mated to the four-speed automatic transmission and {{convert|200|Nm|lbft|abbr=on}} when mated to the five-speed manual. Petrol versions are also available in five-speed manual or four-speed automatic versions. All variants utilise the rear-wheel drive configuration.

In early 2007, the engines on the Indonesian market Kijang Innova were updated to comply with the Euro 2 emission standards. It received a catalytic converter and the injection system was changed to a closed loop system. The Innova also received a front mesh grille. The E trim of the Kijang Innova received double blower air conditioner, while the G trim received 2 DIN CD and cassette player.

The Innova was launched in November 2008 in the Philippines and on 28 January 2009 in India. In Indonesia, the facelifted versions include the E variant, which now features the parts from the first-generation G variant.

It featured redesigned headlights, grille, bonnet, bumpers & tail lights. The interior is updated with a new steering wheel, new air-conditioning knobs (for non V variants), and a revised center dashboard. For the Indonesian market only, the V variant used updated wheels (later used on all variants in some export markets), while the previous wheels used on the 2009-2011 model V variant were installed on the E and G variants.

2013

On 19 August 2013, PT Toyota-Astra Motor launched the third facelift of the Innova, which is known as the New Kijang Innova. Changes consist of a larger grille, redesigned bumpers and a new trunk garnish exclusive to the E, G and V variants.[2] A four-spoke steering wheel and dual airbags are also standard features on this model.[3] In August 2014, for the 2015 model year, the Kijang Innova was updated again with the redesigned wheels exclusive to the G, V and Luxury trims (also used on the E trim in some export markets), while the previous wheels used on the 2012-2014 model V trim were installed on the E trim. Markets

India

For the Indian market, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) showcased the second generation Innova at Auto Expo in February 2016. Called the Innova Crysta, the all-new model of the MPV was launched in May 2016.[10] Exclusive for this model is a 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV inline-four turbo diesel engine producing {{convert|177|hp|kW|abbr=on|0|order=flip}} and {{convert|360|Nm|lbft|abbr=on|0|order=flip}}. Features include cruise control, leather seats, powered seats and a powered boot lid.[11] The MPV launched in May 2016 as with two diesel engine options: the 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV diesel and the 2.4-liter 2GD-FTV diesel. The 2.8-liter "1GD-FTV" gets the six-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift while the 2.4-liter "2GD-FTV" gets the five-speed manual transmission.[12] In August 2016 Toyota Bharat launched the petrol powered Innova Crysta with a 2.7 Litre 2TR-FE petrol I4 engine producing 160 hp (120kW) and 181 lbf·ft (246 N·m). The petrol engine is mated with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift according to different trim levels.

The Indian specification AN140 employs a double wishbone suspension with coil springs and stabilizer up front and a four-link with coil spring and lateral road suspension at the rear. The low end variants ride on 16-inch wheels, while the top-end variant receives 17-inch wheels.[13]

Trim levels are G, V and Z. Z is the highest and most expensive trim. In 2018 Toyota launched the Innova Touring Sport based on the Kijang Innova Venturer and was updated with 6-speed manual transmission with iMT. As of March 2019, Touring Sport is the top end model in the Indian lineup of Innova.

Indonesia

Models range from the base Grande (G type) to the Victory (V type) to the top level Quantum (Q type).[14] J and E variants were discontinued because of low demand.

The G and V variants were equipped with standard halogen headlamps with reflector, while the Q variant has LED projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights. All models were equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels as standard. Only the 2.4 Q has 17-inch alloy wheels. Outer mirror with turning signals was available as standard feature. Optional body kit is available for all variants.[15]

All models have multi information display (monochrome for G and TFT screen for V and Q), parking camera, driving mode selector (Eco & Power mode), triple blower AC, steering-mounted audio control, 6 speakers, chilled glove box and a tilt-telescopic steering system as standard. G variant has a 2 DIN audio system with 7-inch touchscreen monitor, while the V and Q were equipped with 8-inch monitor. All models were capable to play MP3, MP4, DVD and WMA. SD card reader, USB port, AUX in, Bluetooth and voice command were available as standard. V and Q audio systems were enhanced with Miracast, DLNA, WiFi, internet browser, Toyota Move application and GPS navigation system. Automatic single zone climate control AC was available as standard for V and Q variants. G and V has copper brown interior color with faux aluminium panel, while Q variant has full black interior color, wood panel and captain seats as standard. The start-stop engine button and follow me home function are only available in Q variant. The Q diesel variant exclusively provides emergency brake signal, vehicle stability control, and hill-start assist. These features are not present in the Q petrol.[14]

The engine variants in the Indonesian market are the 2.0-liter 1TR-FE petrol and 2.4-liter 2GD-FTV common rail diesel.

The 2.4-liter 2GD-FTV diesel engine generates {{convert|149|PS|kW|abbr=on}} and {{convert|36.7|kgm|Nm|abbr=on}} of torque when mated to the six-speed automatic transmission and {{convert|34.9|kgm|Nm|abbr=on}} of torque when mated to the five-speed manual.[14]

The top-of-the-line variant of the Kijang Innova, called the Venturer, was launched in Indonesia on 16 January 2017, together with the updated Corolla Altis. It replaces the discontinued Q diesel trim. The "Venturer" trim is equipped with black leather seats, wheel arch moulding, black front bumper spoiler with chrome plating, front grille ornament, side skirt with chrome plating, black painted grille, rear door garnish, rear bumper spoiler, black 17" alloys. The "Venturer" also has the special colour "red mica metallic".[16]

On 10 August 2017, the updated "Kijang Innova" exchanges the plastic grille ornament with a chrome grille ornament on the Grande (G Type). The Victory (V Type) received LED Projector headlamps. Both Quantum (Q Type) and Venturer received a rear monitor, and 2.0 Q trim now features 17" alloy wheels from the discontinued Q diesel trim. This updated Kijang Innova was introduced at the 25th Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show.

On 2 August 2018, the Kijang Innova was updated again to comply with the Euro 4 emission standards. The V type now received an rear monitor that is also installed on the Q trim and Venturer. This was introduced during the 26th Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show.

Malaysia

The AN140 was launched in Malaysia on 5 December 2016. It is assembled by UMW Toyota Motor at its Shah Alam facility in Malaysia. It is available in E and G trim levels.[17] In September 2017, UMW Toyota announced a new variant, the 2.0X to become the range-topper in the Innova line-up with addition of LED headlights, larger alloy wheels, seven-seater rather than an eight with leather upholstery and six-way powered driver’s seat.[18]

Philippines

The second generation Innova (AN140) was launched in the Philippine market on 26 February 2016.[19] Standard variants include the base J, the mid-tier E, the higher-spec G and the top of the line V. A special variant called Touring Sport is also available.

All variants are powered by a 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV turbocharged four cylinder diesel engine, rated at {{convert|171|PS|kW|abbr=on}} and {{convert|360|Nm|lbft|abbr=on}} of torque (which replaces the old 2KD-FTV), or a 2.0-liter 1TR-FE naturally-aspirated four cylinder petrol engine with {{convert|136|PS|kW|abbr=on}} and {{convert|183|Nm|lbft|abbr=on}} of torque, mated to either a 5-speed manual or a new 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift. It also gets power and economy modes as new features. The base J up to the G variant comes equipped with standard halogen headlamps and keyless entry (smoked halogen headlamps on the Touring Sport), while the top of the line V gets LED projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights and captain seats, as well as a push engine start/stop button. A 2-DIN audio system is standard on the J & E variants, while the Touring Sport, G & V variants features a 7" touchscreen infotainment system with navigation.[20]

The AN140 Innova rolled off Toyota's assembly plant in Santa Rosa, Laguna on 14 April 2016[21] and went on sale across Toyota's Philippine dealerships a few days later.

Saudi Arabia and UAE

Al Futtaim Motors, the distributor of Toyota in UAE, launched the AN140 on 6 April 2016. The UAE-specification is powered by the 2.7-liter 2TR-FE engine producing {{convert|164|hp|kW|abbr=on|order=flip}} and {{convert|250|Nm|lbft|abbr=on|order=flip}} of torque. It is available exclusively with the six-speed automatic transmission.[22]

Thailand

The AN140 is marketed in Thailand as the Innova Crysta. The trim levels are 2.0E, 2.8G Diesel, and 2.8V Diesel.{{citation needed|date=October 2016}}

Vietnam

On 18 July 2016, the AN140 Innova was launched in Vietnam and its powered by a 2.0 liter 1TR-FE as an only petrol engine option. It is produced in Vĩnh Phúc and is available in E, G and V trim levels. [23]
