释义 |
The Turvashas ({{lang-sa|तुर्वश}}, {{IAST|Turvaśa}}) were one of the five major peoples [1] (panchajana, panchakrishtya or panchamanusha) mentioned in the Rig Veda[2] and later texts. They lived southeast of the Sarasvati river region. They are one of the five Rigvedic tribes, the other four being Yadu, Druhyu, Anu and Puru. The origin of the tribes are the five sons of Yayati, of whom Yadu and Turvasu were born to Devayani, and the other three were born to Sharmishtha. According to the Puranas dynasties of the South India, including the Cholas, Pandyas, Cheras have descended from the Turvashas.[3] References1. ^http://www.tamilnavarasam.in/books/others/the_dravidian_languages.pdf 2. ^{{cite book|last=Singh|first=Upinder|title=A History of Ancient and Early Medieval India: From the Stone Age to the 12th Century|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=GW5Gx0HSXKUC&pg=PA187&dq=Panchajana+Rigveda&hl=en&ei=qO3UTLLdCI26ugPm04WpCQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CDwQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q&f=false|year=2008|publisher=Pearson Education|location=Delhi|isbn=978-81-317-1120-0|page=187}} 3. ^{{cite book|last=Asiatic Society of Bombay, Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland.
