The channel was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Televisión Española, airing classic programming from the past 50 years. The channel effectively replaced Canal Nostalgia, a similar cable and satellite channel that had been discontinued by TVE several months prior. The channel time-shared with the children's channel Clan TVE, which expanded to a 24-hour schedule after TVE 50 Años was discontinued on 1 January 2007. Ratings{{Empty section|date=October 2018}}
