She was primarily known for her recurring role on the first three seasons of ER as nurse Wendy Goldman, as well as her role as Ana Delgado in the 1988 teacher drama Stand and Deliver. CareerMarquez appeared in a 1992 episode of Seinfeld called "The Cheever Letters", portraying the secretary to the Cuban Embassy. Her success with Stand and Deliver led to a full-fledged career in film and television, with roles in films such as the gangster epic Blood In Blood Out (1993) and the independent film Twenty Bucks (1993). Her television work included guest spots on popular programs including Melrose Place (1992) and a recurring role on Malcolm & Eddie (1996). In addition to her acting credentials, Vanessa was a talented vocalist and appeared as a singer in the 2000 film Under Suspicion. Personal lifePersonal strugglesMarquez had suffered from depression, OCD, and shopping addiction. Her struggles with shopping addiction were documented in a 2005 episode of A&E's show Intervention.[1] Prior to her death, Marquez made headlines related to the #MeToo movement, alleging that she endured harassment while on the set of ER. In October 2017, she accused series star actor George Clooney of helping to "blacklist" her after she complained to executives about the harassment. Clooney denied the allegations.[2] DeathMarquez was shot and killed by police during an incident at her home in South Pasadena, California on August 30, 2018.[3] Authorities had been called to her house to conduct a welfare check and discovered Marquez to be having a seizure and suffering from mental health issues.[4] After 90 minutes of conversation with the authorities, including intervention from a Los Angeles County Mental Health worker, she allegedly armed herself with what South Pasadena Police believed to be a pistol and pointed it at police, who opened fire. It later was discovered to be a BB gun.[5][6][7][8] Marquez was shot at least once in the torso and treated briefly at her home on Fremont Avenue and then rushed to a local hospital, according to police who did not confirm Marquez's identity at the time. Police say she was pronounced dead at the hospital.[3] References1. ^{{cite news|url=https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2018/08/31/er-actress-vanessa-marquez-shot-killed-by-south-pasadena-pd-after-brandishing-bb-gun/|title=‘ER’ Actress Vanessa Marquez Shot, Killed By Police After Brandishing BB Gun|publisher=CBSLA|date=August 31, 2018|accessdate=August 31, 2018}} 2. ^{{Cite web|url=https://southpasadenan.com/actress-vanessa-marquez-killed-in-south-pasadena-officer-involved-shooting/|title=‘ER’ and ‘Stand and Deliver’ Actress Remembered Fondly|last=Vasquez|first=Daniel|date=August 31, 2018|website=SouthPasadenan.com|archive-url=|archive-date=|dead-url=|access-date=August 31, 2018}} 3. ^1 {{Cite web|url=https://southpasadenan.com/breaking-news-officer-involved-shooting-south-pasadena-police-department |title=South Pasadena Shooting: Vanessa Marquez Draws Gun on Officers and was Killed |last=Vasquez |first=Daniel |date=August 30, 2018 |website=SouthPasadenan.com |archive-url=|archive-date=|dead-url=|access-date=August 30, 2018}} 4. ^{{Cite web|url=https://southpasadenan.com/breaking-news-update-south-pasadena-shooting-press-conference/|title=South Pasadena Shooting Press Conference|last=Lawrence|first=Steven|date=August 30, 2018|website=SouthPasadenan.com|archive-url=|archive-date=|dead-url=|access-date=August 30, 2018}} 5. ^{{cite web |last=Fang |first=Marina |title=Former ‘ER’ Actress Killed By Police After She Took Out BB Gun |url=https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/er-actress-killed-by-police_us_5b89644ee4b0511db3d7d371 |publisher=Huffington Post |date=August 31, 2018 |accessdate=August 31, 2018}} 6. ^{{Cite web |url=https://variety.com/2018/tv/news/vanessa-marquez-er-shot-killed-police-1202923337/ |title=Former ‘ER’ Actress Vanessa Marquez Shot and Killed by Police |last= Maddaus |first=Gene |date=August 31, 2018 |access-date=August 31, 2018 |magazine=Variety}} 7. ^{{Cite news |url=http://www.ndtv.com/world-news/actress-vanessa-marquez-shot-dead-by-us-police-while-waving-bb-gun-1909546 |title=Hollywood Actress Shot Dead By Cops After She Pointed Toy Gun At Them |date=September 1, 2018 |work=NDTV |access-date=2018-09-03 |agency=Agence France-Presse}} 8. ^{{cite news |url=https://www.statesman.com/news/national/2EmO0ZKuQ2fUC3WXxFh0sL/ |title='ER' actress Vanessa Marquez shot, killed by police, authorities say |date=31 August 2018 |author=Kelcie Willis, Cox Media Group |publisher=Austin American-Statesman}} External links
