{{notability|date=January 2017}}Vaniya Chettiar is a community found in the Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. They are merchants.They are one of the richest community with more scholars.They own oil mills and sell groceries (mostly food grains).. Vaniyambadi, near Vellore, was originally a Vaniya Chettiar town (most of the chettiars have moved to neighboring towns). Vaniya Chettiars perform upanayanam and wear sacred thread. They employ Brahmins as their priests and they are vyshyas.
