Velada is a municipality located in the province of Toledo, Castile-La Mancha, Spain. According to the 2006 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 2,436 inhabitants.

Toponymy

The primitive population of this term was Atalayuelas. The relation of 1578 says that the name is changed towards 1278 but there are two Evenings, the first of which remains remains in the middle of the sixteenth century and the modern population that was founded around the middle of the fifteenth century. The territory was reconquered by knights of the city of Avila. In 1294 the estates of Velada and San Roman were created in favor of Fernán and Gil Blázquez de Ávila, grouped in a mayorazgo founded by his father Blasco Jimeno Dávila. Their descendants ruled the lordship and its towns. According to Cedillo, at the beginning of century XVI, they had to grant the title of Villa to Velada. History

Watermelon of Velada

The velada watermelon is one of the main engines of the economy of this municipality. Being a dry and ecological crop, these watermelons have great flavor and the largest can reach up to 30 kg in weight. Velada's watermelon is exported in Spain and abroad.

Circuit of Speed

A group of investors has designed reference facilities in central Spain for regional and national championships, as well as other types of testing and training sessions of a private nature.
