It is known as the birthplace of Ayyankali, the great Harijan leader of Kerala.[1]It now has been recognised as the first S1 village in Kerala by the State Planning Board. This designation recognises that the village is working toward the goals of self-reliance, sufficiency and sustainability.[2] Under a new rural development program, Venganoor has been selected as the site to build computer education facilities, a reference library, and a school for vocational training.
