词条 | Vere Street, Camden |
释义 |
Vere Street was a street in the Lincoln's Inn Fields area, between Clare Market at its eastern end and Duke Street (which, via Prince's Street, itself connected to Drury Lane) at its western end. It is best known for the Gibbon's Tennis Court (also known as the Vere Street Theatre or the Theatre Royal, Vere Street), and the Vere Street Coterie. The area was unaffected by the Great Fire of London, and the decrepit Elizabethan buildings survived until the area, by then a slum, was redeveloped by the London County Council in around 1900 to create the Aldwych and Kingsway.
