Names and etymologyIn historical records the village was first mentioned in 1335 (Grwb).[1] The name derives from German Graben ("ditch").[1] An extended historic name Nemecký ("German") Grob ({{lang-hu|Német-Gurab}}) dates back to the 16th century. It distinguished the village from Chorvátsky ("Croatian") Grob and Slovenský ("Slovak") Grob. GeographyThe municipality lies at an elevation of 130 metres and covers an area of 23.545 km². It has a population of about 1290 people.
