Tamping Township is its municipality seat. Wanyuan has more than 100.000 inhabitants.==Geography and climate==Wanyuan has a monsoon-influenced humid subtropical climate (Köppen Cwa), with cool, damp winters and hot, humid summers; winter temperatures are significantly cooler than in the Sichuan Basin. The monthly 24-hour average temperature ranges from {{convert|4.1|°C|1}} in January to {{convert|24.9|°C|1}} in July and August, the latter figure being comparable to Chengdu, while the annual mean is {{convert|14.81|°C|1}}.
