The largest residential part of Warden is generally called Warden Bay. Where the beach becomes inaccessible and the cliffs become prominent, the area is generally referred to as Warden Point. HistoryIt was once called Warne. At the time of the Domesday Survey, the parish and manor of Warden, was controlled by the Manor of Milton. In King Edward I of England's reign (1272 to 1307), it was owned by the family of Savage. In 1295, John le Savage obtained a charter of free-warren for his lands in the manor.[2] In 1376, Sir Richard at Leese (MP), became owner of the manor, he was Sheriff of Kent in 1367. When he died in 1394, it passed to his widow, 'Dionisia'.[2] In 1727, it was sold to Sir Thomas Stevens, (who was a High Sheriff of Surrey in 1726). After he died it passed to Thomas West (Sir Thomas's son). Then to James West (husband of Thomas West's sister Sarah). James was the son of Thomas West.[2] He was recorder of St. Alban's, secretary to the treasury, and fellow of the royal and antiquarian societies[2] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.neighbourhood.statistics.gov.uk/dissemination/LeadKeyFigures.do?a=7&b=11130143&c=Warden&d=16&e=62&g=6438665&i=1001x1003x1032x1004&m=0&r=1&s=1474564928469&enc=1|title=Civil Parish population 2011|accessdate=22 September 2016|publisher=Office for National Statistics |work=Neighbourhood Statistics}} 2. ^1 2 3 {{cite journal |last=Hasted |first=Edward |year=1798 |title=Parishes |url=http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=62965 |journal=The History and Topographical Survey of the County of Kent |publisher=Institute of Historical Research |volume=6 |pages=259–263|accessdate=8 April 2014}} External links{{Commons category inline|Warden, Kent}}{{Swale}}{{kent-geo-stub}} 5 : Villages in Kent|Populated coastal places in Kent|Beaches of Kent|Isle of Sheppey|Civil parishes in Kent |
