Formerly called Wenzhou Yongqiang Airport, it adopted the current name on 25 April 2013.[1] The airport is located {{convert|24|km|abbr=on}} southeast of the city. In 2010, Wenzhou airport was the 28th busiest airport in mainland China with 5,326,802 passengers. HistoryThe airport was opened for civil service on July 12, 1990. The construction cost was RMB 132.5 million dollars and was funded by Wenzhou's municipal government. FacilitiesThe airport can handle aircraft as large as the Boeing 767 and Airbus A330. The departure lounge occupies {{convert|12000|m2|abbr=on}} in area. The apron occupies an area of {{convert|73000|m2|abbr=on}}. New terminalConstruction of the new Terminal 2 officially began on 11 November 2011. It will have an area of 100,000 square meters, four times as big as the existing Terminal 1, and will be able to handle 13 million passengers per year. When completed it will be used exclusively for domestic flights, while Terminal 1 will be converted to a dedicated international terminal.
