It is found in Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guangxi provinces.[2] Batrachuperis pinchonii is known in Chinese legend as the White Dragon. During the 16th century, a Chinese author documented its presence at the Omei mountain in the province of Sichuan. He wrote, "the salamanders living in clear water have some larger toes, a yellow coloration with black spots, four feet, a snout that is slightly raised, a graceful body and an amiable air." Moreover, local peasants would entreat it to bring rain during especially dry seasons. Batrachuperis pinchonii are used for traditional Chinese medicine and for food. Over-collection is now threatening the species.[1]References1. ^1 {{Cite journal | author = Fei, Liang | author2 = Ye, Changyuan | title = Batrachuperus pinchonii | journal = The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species | volume = 2004 | page = e.T59085A11868223 | publisher = IUCN | date = 2004 | url = http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/59085/0 | doi = 10.2305/IUCN.UK.2004.RLTS.T59085A11868223.en | access-date = 27 December 2017}} 2. ^{{cite web |url=http://research.amnh.org/vz/herpetology/amphibia/?action=names&taxon=Batrachuperus+pinchonii |title=Batrachuperus pinchonii (David, 1872) |author=Frost, Darrel R. |year=2013 |work=Amphibian Species of the World 5.6, an Online Reference |publisher=American Museum of Natural History |accessdate=24 November 2013}}
