He represented Renfrew North in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal member from 1874 to 1875.[1] He was born in Goulbourn Township in 1839,[1] the son of James Murray, an Irish immigrant,[2] and Elizabeth Burrows, and was educated in Goulbourn Township.[3] He entered business with his older brother Thomas in Pembroke.[2] In 1864, he married Margaret Mary Foran.[3] He was declared elected in 1874 after Peter White's election was appealed.
