To date, no provincial or territorial legislative assembly has ever achieved gender parity between women and men. Women currently represent 33.4 per cent (255 out of 762) of all provincial and territorial legislators across Canada as a whole. As of June 2018, the province of Alberta currently has a female Premier.
In Alberta, although women represent just one third of the overall legislature, they represent 48 per cent of the governing Alberta New Democratic Party — the party's 26 female and 28 male MLAs represent the closest that a governing party caucus has ever come in Canadian history to attaining full gender balance between men and women.[1] In Ontario, the official opposition Ontario New Democratic Party caucus attained precise gender balance in the 2018 election, with 20 women and 20 men elected as MPPs.
