The town is located in the Shire of Moira local government area, {{convert|251|km|mi}} north of the state capital, Melbourne and {{convert|10|km|mi|0}} west of Cobram. The town is situated near the intersection of Kenny Road, Kokoda Road and the Murray Valley Highway. At the {{CensusAU|2011}}, Yarroweyah and the surrounding area had a population of 528.[2] HistoryYarroweyah Post Office opened on 1 January 1882. In 1888 it was renamed Yarroweyah South when a new Yarroweyah post office opened to the north. This latter office closed in 1976.[3] After World War II, an extensive soldier settlement area was established to the south of Yarroweyah. The north-south roads built in the area were named after theatres of war, and the east-west roads after generals etc. (e.g. Tobruk, Labuan, Macarthur).[4] For over a century, area residents drilled individual wells to supply their water needs. In 2003 it was proposed to create a municipal distribution system; the residents approved the proposal, and work began. Based on a Cobram to Strathmerton pipeline, the system began providing culinary water in 2005.[5] The Yarroweyah Football Club, nicknamed "The Hoppers", competing in the Picola & District Football League, are based in the town.[6] References1. ^Monument Australia 2. ^1 {{Census 2011 AUS|id=SSC21536|name=Yarroweyah (State Suburb)|accessdate=3 December 2014|quick=on}} 3. ^{{Cite web|last=Premier Postal History|title=Post Office List|url=https://www.premierpostal.com/cgi-bin/wsProd.sh/Viewpocdwrapper.p?SortBy=VIC&country=|accessdate=11 April 2008}} 4. ^{{cite news|first=Melanie|last=Sim|title=Farming life after the War|url=http://www.abc.net.au/goulburnmurray/stories/s1352565.htm|publisher=Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Goulburn Murray|date=25 April 2005|accessdate=25 May 2007|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20060526154141/http://www.abc.net.au/goulburnmurray/stories/s1352565.htm|archivedate=26 May 2006}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.gvwater.vic.gov.au/Media_Releases/2005/Taps_Turn_For_Yarroweyah_150305.asp|title=Taps Turn for Yarroweyah|publisher=Goulburn Valley Water|accessdate=25 May 2007|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20070830192559/http://www.gvwater.vic.gov.au/Media_Releases/2005/Taps_Turn_For_Yarroweyah_150305.asp|archivedate=30 August 2007}} 6. ^{{Cite web|last=Full Points Footy|title=Yarroweyah|url=http://www.fullpointsfooty.net/Yarroweyah.htm|accessdate=25 July 2008|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/20080430064410/http://www.fullpointsfooty.net:80/yarroweyah.htm|archivedate=30 April 2008}} External links{{commons category-inline|Yarroweyah, Victoria}}{{Towns in Moira Shire}} 3 : Towns in Victoria (Australia)|Australian soldier settlements|1882 establishments in Australia |
