It was formerly sometimes placed in the obsolete genus Poliolimnas or united with the Ocellated crake in Micropygia, and is now occasionally separated in a monotypic genus Hapalocrex. Phylogenetic analyses of mitochondrial DNA revealed that it is not a part of Porzana proper, and instead belongs within the Coturnicops–Laterallus clade[2][3]. While its precise relationships are still insufficiently resolved, it is not closely related to Micropygia, and Stervander et al. (2019) suggested that it should be referred to as Laterallus flaviventer pending further data.[3] It is found in most of Central and South America. Its natural habitat is swamps and marshes.[1] This small rail has yellow legs, buff underparts, black barring on the flanks and a dark-streaked back, and a black crown.[4] References1. ^1 {{IUCN|id=22692720 |title=Porzana flaviventer |assessor=BirdLife International |assessor-link=BirdLife International |version=2013.2 |year=2012 |accessdate=26 November 2013}} 2. ^{{Cite journal|last=Garcia-R|first=Juan C.|last2=Gibb|first2=Gillian C.|last3=Trewick|first3=Steve A.|date=December 2014|title=Deep global evolutionary radiation in birds: Diversification and trait evolution in the cosmopolitan bird family Rallidae|url=https://linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/S1055790314003200|journal=Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution|volume=81|pages=96–108|doi=10.1016/j.ympev.2014.09.008|issn=1055-7903}} 3. ^1 {{Cite journal|last=Stervander|first=Martin|last2=Ryan|first2=Peter G.|last3=Melo|first3=Martim|last4=Hansson|first4=Bengt|date=2019|title=The origin of the world’s smallest flightless bird, the Inaccessible Island Rail Atlantisia rogersi (Aves: Rallidae)|url=https://linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/S1055790318301763|journal=Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution|volume=130|pages=92–98|doi=10.1016/j.ympev.2018.10.007|issn=1055-7903|via=}} 4. ^{{cite journal|last=Gochfeld|first=Michael|title=Observations on New or Unusual Birds from Trinidad, West Indies, and Comments on the Genus Plegadis in Venezuela|journal=The Condor|volume=75|issue=4|year=1973|pages=474–478}} External links
