It is found in Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama. The yellow-throated euphonia is a small {{convert|10|cm|in|abbr=on}} long bird. Like most male euphonias, it is primarily dark blue above and yellow below. They can easily be confused for other euphonia species that share their range. The male of this species is distinguished by the combination of a yellow forecrown, yellow throat and a white spot on the belly. The female is dull green, but also has the distinctive white belly spot.[3] Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and heavily degraded former forest. Its call is a fast chee-dee-dee.
